you can use the official TIM GUI, and with the modem rooted just change the username/password in /etc/config/network
This will make the modem working with your ISP, with a GUI without bugs  ;D

Just read my post at the begining of this topic : http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,20343.msg355530.html#msg355530

1) do a factory reset
2) unlock the modem if it disabled the root access
3) edit /etc/config/network with your username/password vlan etc...

that's all you have to do, now you can use the TIM/technicolor GUI (without bugs) and connect your 2nd router to it.

@bilbokitz
You could also try a complete factory reset (with Remove Root) and than setup bridge mode with official Tim GUI(after unlocking it again).
Maybe that will make a difference for you but i'm not sure if you can setup Bridge mode with the official Tim GUI...

Btw, what do you exactly mean with pppoe/a discovery ?
Does it completely fail and you can't even establish a pppoa connection with your main router ?

Did you tried my config ?

/ect/config/network:
Code: [Select]
config device 'wanptm0'
option name 'wanptm0'
option macaddr '*insert your own your mac adress here*'
option ifname 'ptm0'
option ipv6 '0'

config config 'config'
option wan_mode 'bridge'

config interface 'lan'
option type 'bridge'
option proto 'static'
option netmask '255.255.255.0'
option ip6assign '64'
option force_link '0'
option ipv6 '0'
option pppoerelay '<set by script>'
option ipaddr '192.168.254.254'
list ifname 'eth0'
list ifname 'eth1'
list ifname 'eth2'
list ifname 'eth3'
list ifname 'eth5'
list ifname 'wanptm0'

/ect/config/pppoerelayd:
Code: [Select]
config pppoerelayd 'config'
        option enable '0'
        option server_intf 'wan'
        option client_intf 'lan'
        option timeout '0'
        option nsessions '32'

Thanks for the suggestions, no config seems to work 100% when vlan is disabled under dsl, another device needs to establish the connection 1st. I'll wait for another gui update and try again.

That is pretty weird... Is the other device the original provider modem ?
Maybe it's a Mac address related problem, i heard with some ISP's you need to match the Mac address of the original provider hardware to establish a connection in the first place. If that's the case with your provider you could try to spoof the modem mac address of your original ISP device...

Otherwise i'm out of ideas, to be honest i find it kinda odd that your provider does not use a vlan tag for pppoa/pppoe connection @VDSL.
Afaik most provider require a specific vlan tag for VDSL...

NO mac address related, and yes it is an oddity to have no isp vlan  so it would seem.

Mmmm I wonder if it is possible to spoof a vlan somehow

Well did you already try to establish a connection with a vlan tag ?
Normally it shouldn't work (ppp timeout) and I think it doesn't make sense to set/spoof a vlan if your ISP does not require it...

When the device is in normal router mode and rhe vlan optionbis set to 'off' all is wonderful. When vlan is set to on no connection is possible.

In bridge mode neither on or off will work properly. This is whatbis broken.

Very strange, the only thing left would be a problem/incompatibility between the DGA and the ppp daemon of your main router.
Do you have a spare Router to test ? Btw, what model is the main router ?

edit: nvm, I have just realised that you are on ADSL and i have never seen any ADSL pppoe/a connection which requires a vlan tag !

could you post your /etc/config/network in routed mode, your working version. And also the Bridge version which is not working ?

According to https://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/uci/network , try to add these 2 lines in bold :

config interface 'wan'  <-- do not call it modem
   option type 'bridge'
   option proto 'none'
   option auto '1'

   option ifname 'eth3 eth4 eth5 ptm0'

Option auto mean "start this interface on boot", and proto should be set to none, i don't know what protocol is used if it is not set, so better write it.
Anyway i think you removed a lot of things in the config file...
why did you remove eth0 eth1 eth2 from the option ifname ?

2nd thing, in bridge mode you don't need the modem firewall, so :
/etc/init.d/firewall disable
/etc/init.d/firewall stop

/etc/init.d/network restart to apply all the changes.

so did you try my suggestion here ? http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,20343.msg360766.html#msg360766

Can't remember, I think I have given up, if a config file cannot be set by a GUI then, even thought I like firmware fiddling, I just cant be bothered, it "winds up" members of my family what with downtime etc.

I may try again in a few weeks, It takes a bit of fiddling with LAN cables and power to replace my upstairs modem and downstairs router with this single device.

I may just try re-upgrade to firmware 1.04 and try in bridge (ADSL) mode to see how the modem compares first....

Thanks for your assistance anyway.

I have edited/renamed a couple of things in \www\docroot\ to remove the annoying bouncing arrow and to re-order the "cards" to my preferred order.

Thanks again

Ian
