Tues 3rd Feb Chat
« on: February 03, 2009, 06:21:54 AM »

Good Morning all,

Plenty of the white stuff here, just been clearing the car for Sue.

She's a bit down at present, she lost an emerald out of here ring yesterday.I'm hoping we can claim on the contents insurance.  :fingers:

Managed to escape having any snowballs thrown at the windows last night

I will be staying indoors all day today.

Have a good day,be careful if you have to go out and keep warm.  :)

Good morning, and I hope all are well and managing to stay warm and dry  ;D

I am sorrow to see that Mrs. unkyUb has lost a stone from her ring. That sort of loss is easily done but can be quite devastating, especially if the ring has emotional or sentimental thoughts attached to it.
I do hope she can find the stone, failing that that she can get it replaced.

No snow here at all, a few flurries yesterday but it did not lie. It's raining at the moment  :(

I too will be staying close to the fire today.

Have a nice day and look after yourselves.  :)

The ring is very sentimental to her.I bought it for her when we visited the Bahamas on a day cruise in 1991.We were on holiday in Florida at the time and booked this all day cruise which was a fantastic day out.
The ring was bought from a shop that specialised in Columbian emeralds. There are 4 stones in the ring so its not as noticable as losing a big centre stone. She's still gutted though.

Morning all,

Bright sun here after all day snow yesterday, but it's still very cold out and treacherous under foot.  Must go out tomorrow so I am hoping it thaws somewhat by then.

That's a terrible shame Uncy about Sue's ring, never the same replacing the original, can understand how upset she must be about losing the stone, I would be too.

Hope you keep nice and warm TD, I'm not going anywhere either, tho had planned to go to daughters today but don't want to chance slipping over so will have to leave it.  Btw, OH saw a flock (or is it a skein) of canada or brent geese flying over here this morning honking away.  He said he's never seen them over this way before (n w Kent) so do you think it's the weather that's brought them this way or have we just missed seeing them before?

Have a good day everyone and stay safe and warm.

Chrissie

Now, don't you be going anywhere today, Chrissie..........don't want you down with a broken leg.
If you were in hospital how would the Kitizens travel through this weather to bring you your grapes ?  ;D

It is quite difficult to seperate Brent and Canada geese. The Brent is a bit smaller and the Canada has the white cheeks.
Canadas are mainly resident and don't stray far from their home ground.........even if it frozen up they tend to stick around. So maybe some Brents getting blown in from oop north.
Whichever, a lovely sight to see.

Allo Allo  !  All  ....     very chilly here today  .... no snow, no frost, just chilly brrrrrrrrrrrrr  !       Had to go for the replacement guttering and fittings .....  the maximum length is 4 meters, which I bought .... then realised is was 'rather' longer than the car  :'(    the Monsieur was trying to be helpful, and I ended up with a good meter sticking out of the front window at a slight angle  :'( - so I was watching out for cyclists !!  after  travelling a few hundred meters it became clear that this was not going to work as the whole thing started to bend outwards  :o  so I stopped, put on the hazard lights as I was  definitely a hazard  ;D  and proceeded to weigh it all up ...   I ended up having the extra 'good' meter sticking out at the back, but then I had to have the hatch open for travelling...  we have the security  luminous gilets in the car (by law here) so I took one of those and wound it around the end of the protrusion .... but because it's soft material and the guttering is plastic, it kept sliding up and down  :'( then I found a spare collar we have for Scotty,  that did the trick .... travelled home  at a very slow pace, very cold back draft  :-X through the narrow lanes of the  vineyards, once or twice getting a queue behind; not one person pipped at me, I did stop from time to time to let them past  ....anyway back home all safe and in tact, and the hatchback hasn't taken any harm either .... so I've treated myself to a large coffee and a largish chocolate éclair  :yum:  I'm staying put for the rest of the day  :)

So sorry to hear about the loss of the emerald Unc ....  it is upsetting when you lose something like that. Many years ago I lost a small gold bracelet which had such sentimental value to me it couldn't be replaced, I still miss it and wonder where it went :(

Keep indoors Chrissie and stay warm  ..   did the chair  arrive ?   You too TD  ...   keep that home fire burning  ;)

Take care all   :)

We ended up with about 6" of snow by last night  :'(,  .
One very strange effect we noticed last night at about 8pm,  the snow laden clouds  where reflecting the orange sodium street lights from our village back down on the ground so the whole village was lit with this strange light, light enough to go out side and see to walk about with falling over some thing.

@ub  re emerald , It's a long shot , but if you put a white sock on the end of the vacuum cleaner hose end ( to stop it getting sucked into the vac  ;) ) and go over the floor and in the car it may just pick it up.

Just made the trip by train from Bristol into London - some trains cancelled and others delayed, but overall a smooth journey.  They're all woosses down here ... a dusting of snow (10 inches is nothing!) and everything stops!  I can remember when living in the North and Scotland driving around with 3 foot drifts at the side of the road, going up to 6 feet in places.

When I lived in Germany, we dug ourselves out on more than one occasion from 18 foot drifts.

How's it up by you TD?

@ camallison........>>>> How's it up by you TD? <<<<

No snow at all. It was raining this morning, but this afternoon that has blown over and it is like spring. Soft and mild, blue skies the birds singing and the buds budding.
I kid you not, it is a lovely day and TD has just returned from a grand walk.  :)

I did as was told, stayed indoors lol... it's so cold out there so wasn't inviting anyway lol.

Gosh unusual for Bonnie Scotland TD, no snow there when us sutherners have it...would you like us to share it with you  ;D

Kate, yes the chair arrived on time.... still prefer my old (broken) one.... but then this one is modern and not my type but....it will do.  Still going to see if I can get the bottom paraphernalia for the old chair that screws onto the base, then I can keep the old chair as well if I can.

@mike, strange effects eh, funny how it happens, right time right place.  Daughter remarked the other night when the first lot of snow started, how there was a lightning bolt and loud clap of thunder whilst it was snowing :o never known that before but then our weather is weird of late anyway isn't it.
