New Router time!
« on: July 31, 2025, 03:37:53 PM »

Only gone and bought a Minisforum MS-01, I bought the barebones i5-12th gen specifically to run opnSense on so I can get it off the M720q in a VM it was on.

Will post back here when I get it going.

Hi, looks like really cool hardware, will be a very powerful router, what made you choose this one? I see they have UK website but are based in Hong Kong, do they dispatch from China? If so, watch out for the excise duty etc ....

I also bought my miniPC router from China (running OPNsense) from CWWK, its been pretty good but their support website is a horrible mess and mostly in Chinese - Minisforums looks much better i.e. English and with accessible BIOS updates etc

Looking forward to hearing how it goes!

Bought it direct from Amazon so came next day. I like the Protectli's and such but they're a bit low power for my tastes.

I want to dabble with Suricata/IDS and full SRE type monitoring/observability (It's my job) so I do the same stuff in my home lab.

Mostly wanted to get off a VM and have a dedicated machine because well, that is best. I paid £400 for the bare bones machine which considering I had an NVME and RAM to drop straight in it I thought was pretty good value.

Got OPNsense running just need to get it all configured and moved over now
