Thing is: ZyXEL VMG stuff is very good, but the lack of (regular) firmware updates makes me wonder how secure these still are. Clearly some companies are better at updating firmware of their products than others. So, when choosing equipment, it's probably best to take that into account. (And forget about trying to match the chipset of the modem at home to that of the exchange for the sake of an extra 1Mbps or even 2.)
That's a bit of a moot point in a thread about a firmware mod for bridge mode.
Most of us use the Zyxel VMG1312-B10A as a bridge modem only.
It has 100Mb/s LAN ports and no 5GHz WiFi.
Nobody is using it online as a router.
It has no access to the internet, no gateway defined even.
The fact the firmware is old makes not a bit of difference.
