success at last
« on: December 13, 2007, 10:17:33 AM »

after once been told i would even struggle to get 1 meg because i had so much noise spikes on my extension cable and far from the exchange from these stats

Connection Speed 608 kbps 288 kbps
Line Attenuation 61.5db          db 31.5 db
Noise Margin 19.5 db 23.0 db

went from that connection to this

Connection Speed     3872 kbps     448 kbps
Line Attenuation    59.5 db    31.5 db
Noise Margin    7.2 db    19.0 db

all thanks for my netgear router for helping and using the test socket  :P

SNR still abit low could still drop but havent had a problem for a few hours now and i still have a stable SNR margin

so thanks for the advice on the website which helped also ;D

Hey chris ;D nice one

With max your SNR is always going to be low unless you're on a very good line and sync at the full 8Mb.

Due to the way Max works, it syncs the fastest it can whilst negotiating the SNR to be at least as high as a preset 'target' level. These targets go up in multiples of 3dB, starting from 6dB, 9dB, etc.. Once you're synced the SNR margin is free to roam about as it naturally will, and as long as the line doesn't drop, the SNR can fall considerably further than 6dB (especially with a router like the Netgear that seems really good at hanging onto sync at low SNR)

So not quite sure whether your target SNR would be 6dB or 9dB, as it seems to have fallen slap bang in the middle of those two! But just to reassure, 7.2dB SNR is nothing to worry about if it doesn't fluctuate enough to cause the line to drop :)

Quite a jump in speed well done.

You really have to read forums and experiment yourself and if lucky will get a positive outcome.

Pretty good, shows a small amount of fluctuation which, like kitz says, is pretty normal.

Especially for such a long line, you're doing damn well!
