Terminology minefield: it's all geek to some?
« on: April 16, 2011, 09:54:55 AM »

Well at least one it is. ;D

Some call their product a router, others a modem router, and others a gateway. All seem to do the same thing, but do they?

Can someone explain the terms, and also comment on whether manufacturers and resellers always use the right terms?

Hi
there are Modems stand alone , there are /were routers stand alone Then there are router modems all in one ,these are often just referred to as routers ,

see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gateway_%28telecommunications%29 for further explanation of gateway (exemplify special cases of gateways.)quote from Wikipedia
