It sounds like the phone itself is on its last legs. :(

I'd recommend you look for a new SIM free phone.... try here for starters:

http://www.pricerunner.co.uk/cl/1/Mobile-Phones?sort=3&price_max=80

(I recently got the Nokia 1208 from that page, and its superb.) :)

:(  Yes I'mbeginning to wonder if this is the case, thought it might be a one off when it started up but again this morning when I flip it open, sometimes the graphics misbehave then and then again when I go to send a text...scream!

@Uncy, I wondered about the Asda mobile (though I do have another phone which is Virgin cos most of the family are on that...but I don't like the phone, it's a Samsung is it 250... not sure....slide phone)  Then I rec'd a flyer with Asda about the Asda PAYG, can't believe they are so cheap... must be a catch somewhere lolol.

The Virgin sim only looks a good deal for £10 a month. 200 mins and 200 texts. No tie in contracts neither.

Chrissie, you could keep your existing SIM and just transfer it to a new sim-free phone as I suggested.  That way you save your phone book. ;)

BTW, I have always used Virgin Mobile and find it to be excellent.

Yes I think I will have to do this Floidy, it was worse this morning I couldn't get anything "sensible" out of it (scream).... I just don't like letting go cos I use this phone more for memo's and it's so easy to do them and gives me the alarm (saving my memory ha ha).... the Samsung one I have isn't as easy....ugh.  I agree about Virgin, been with them for a long time and they are excellent especially with after sales and help et al.

Just had a thought. I think all the recent "bursting into flames" incidents have been with Lithium batteries and usually in laptops, whilst they are being charged. My Motorola phone used old technology NiMh batteries which are much less likely to give problems. Not to underestimate the risk with Lithium cells but if Chrissie's phone is fairly old it might also not be Lithium. Also the problem only happens whilst charging which, whilst dangerous to property, probably means your trousers are safe, Eric, unless you charge your phone in your pocket!
Tony

Polite correction - the flaming problem also happens on rapid discharge - ie, your keys or a coin bridges the charging conmections on the phone - sometimes uncovered and wide-open to shorting.  You are right to say that the problem is only with Lithium batteries.  NiMH don't exhibit the prolem.

Camallison, I stand corrected although I have not seen a phone with exposed battery connections that could be bridged accidentally.

With many of the cheap grey imports there is a high risk of serious injury

I can vouch for that, A few years ago I  purchased a 'cheapy' replacement for my old nokia phone from a computer fair.   I was pleased as the price seemed quite reasonable... until a few months later when charging it I noticed that my phone seemed very hot.  At which point I unplugged it and looked at the battery...  which had melted quite badly.

Chris took one look at the battery and said I'd been bleedin lucky that I'd noticed it when I did and he made me throw the other one I'd bought at the same time for my daughter's phone away and order 2 proper ones.
