Conflicting FTTC info
« on: April 22, 2016, 11:58:19 AM »

I live about 3.8km from my local exchange, but around 1.5km from the nearest cabinet. Exchange is Herstmonceux in East Sussex.. I'm getting conflicting info from various tools about FTTC availability.
From the Kitz Broadband checker I get:

  - see attachment fttc3.gif if this does not display..

While from the Magenta code lookup site I get:[

  - see attachment fttc2.gif if this does not display..

Both of these are links from this site, yet appear to say opposite things..

Thanks

Chris

Which is correct? I'm trying to find out if / when I may get any chance of > 1.5Mb over my broadband..

Use this one https://www.dslchecker.bt.com/  if you have a BT line enter your number, otherwise use your address.

If that's your number in the screenshot then the wholesale checker doesn't even show FTTC as available, perhaps simply too far from the cabinet.

It would also be a good idea to remove the number from the screen shot .

Thanks - phone number removed!
I have always thought we were some way off getting fibre (or anything fast..), which is why I was surprised to see on the Magenta site that in theory our cabinet has been fibre enabled since 2015.. But I'm guessing that is wrong? Or am I misinterpreting something?
The only thing I can think of is that the cabinet is fibre enabled, but for some reason BT have decided not to offer fibre services through it.. would that make sense??

What did the BT checker show for your address? As Ronski says, it is probably a distance issue.

This is what the BT speedchecker showed:, see fttc5.gif..

It may be distance - we're showing as just under 4km from the exchange. interestingly, in the village there is a shiny new cabinet - see cab.gif   Village is only 1.5km away. It looks like an All in One cabinet as shown here: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/fttc-cabinets.htm

Am I being optimistic, or is this a promising sign??

Its either a distance issue or capacity issue, i.e the cabinet is full. Have you spoken to any providers to see what they can offer?

Check some addresses from nearer the cabinet and as long as they are shown as being on the same cabinet see what services they can get. You can put a post code in the full address checker and then select an address.

I would of thought at 1.5km you'd get something,  so the cabinet might not yet be live, your line is longer than you think or there is a database issue.
