Help please, using DSLStats on a HG612, first time
« on: October 10, 2014, 06:40:53 PM »

Hi,
I've just got FTTC and I've been recommended to unlock my HG612 modem and use DSLStats, so that I can keep on keeping an eye on my line as I did with ADSL. So, modem is unlocked (I think), but now what?

In the "how to unlock" it said to put a second Ethernet cable between LAN2 on the HG and my router, so I've done that. There were then instructions about going to http: etc, so I did that and ended up at my router. I have tried just running DSLStats.exe but it says it can't logon. I should mention that, having discovered DSLStats, I tried it with my Billion 7800N while still on ADSL. It worked a treat and I wish I had found this before. BUT... DSLStats still seems to think I am using the Billion even though I've replaced the Billion with an ASUS and deleted and re-downloaded DSLStats. Maybe it's chucking the Billion logon at the HG and I just need to clear it's memory of the Billion (he said with his fingers crossed)?

Thanks,
John

Did you reconfigure the login details to suit the HG612? They're quite different from the 8800NL 7800N.

Errrr... probably not  :-[ Can you please point me at the instructions for that?

I've made some progress. I have managed to clear the Billion info on the logon tab and select Huawei with admin/admin. I now get "syncing" before it says "Unable to logon". Do I need to do anything else? (Dumb question, the answer is obviously "yes").

Thanks,
John

The "Syncing" message relates to the option to co-operate with HG612_Modem_Stats. If you're not also running HG612_Modem_Stats then you can disable that option (near the bottom of the tab Configuration --> Misc).

That aside, if you select the Huawei HG612 from the drop-down box on the Login tab, it will fill in all the correct details for you. The only thing that may need changing is the IP address, if this is different from the default value 192.168.1.1. Don't change anything else.

This should be enough to get it working, but if not, come back and we'll investigate further.

What subnet are you using for your LAN?

OK, I have used the reset option on the login config tab, just to ensure a good starting point. I'm not using "HG612 modem stats co-operation" so I have unticked that option on the misc tab. I'm still getting "unable to login to modem / router.

Router is an ASUS RT-AC66U, ip address is 192.168.1.1, subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.

The password for the router is different o the admin/admin id/pw used by the modem. Should I be supplying the router pw or the modem pw? I've tried both with no luck.

I have a cable running between LAN2 on the modem and a spare port on the router.

Thanks,
John

Do you have more than 1 device with the ip address of 192.168.1.1?

Not that I know of. Is there any easy way of checking?

Thanks,

If the HG612 has its default IP address, then it's the same as the router, and that would explain the problem. If this is the case, I suggest that you change one of them to 192.168.1.254.

The password you need is the HG612 password (admin).

OK. I'd rather leave the router address as is, so how do I do that on the modem? Please excuse the lack of networking knowledge.

Thanks,

OK, scrub the previous comment as being daffy. It's working!! Thanks. I've changed the ip address of the router and it's working fine.

Thanks for your help.
