« on: July 09, 2014, 12:51:56 PM »

What should it look like?

Not like this one I've attached... :)

That looks like a very long line, so it's probably not untypical. Mine is much the same, and my line is only mediumish length (45 dB attenuation).

You've got the same upstream too? I've only ever seen flat upstreams posted on here!

I'm still trying to find some decent literature to explain QLN. Might you have some? :D

The shape of my upstream part is similar to yours. As to the explanation, I'm afraid that's outside my limited area of competence.

Interesting...!

There's another ADSL line at this site, reporting 49dB atten.

This 'new' line is reporting 67dB. What are your line stats and do you have a competing service too? I wondered if it was xtalk from the other line...

My current stats are:

Code: [Select]
Stats recorded 09 Jul 2014 15:11:26

DSLAM/MSAN type:        IFTN:0x71c8 / v0x71c8
Modem/router firmware:  AnnexA version - A2pD038f.d24h
DSL mode:                ADSL2+
Status:                  Showtime
Uptime:                  1 day 7 hours 46 min 31 sec
Resyncs:                0 (since 08 Jul 2014 10:56:09)

Downstream Upstream
Line attenuation (dB):  43.5 24.0
Signal attenuation (dB): 47.1 24.7
Connection speed (kbps): 7420 1019
SNR margin (dB):        8.9 8.7
Power (dBm):            0.0 12.8
Interleave depth:        32 4
INP:                    0.50 0

RSCorr/RS (%):          0.0087 0.0772
RSUnCorr/RS (%):        0.0034 0.0000
ES/hour:                9.52 13.1

There's no other service here. In any event, crosstalk wouldn't explain the large difference in attenuation between your two lines. They must either take different routes to the exchange, or the 'new' one has a fault. Does the phone work on the new one?

Just to be sure, does the phone work on the new line?

If there's no dialling tone then there's a strong probability that one side of the pair is disconnected. This would explain all the symptoms. If the poor performance persists when the modem is plugged into the test socket, then you need to get on the phone to your ISP. It should be an easy fault to diagnose.

Yes, it's a not uncommon experience. The phone doesn't work at all, but enough ADSL signal gets through to give some sort of connection.
