Hi,
I’m looking to buy a new router and I’d like some advice on what one to get.
I currently have a WAG320N and while I generally like its performance it’s lacking 2 key features I’m becoming frustrated with. The first is to be able to see if the connection is interleaved or not along with lack of any ability to telnet into it. The second is to be able to see the system up time and be able to tell if it just disconnected a few minutes ago when I wasn’t paying attention.
I’m about 1.1km away from my exchange and have these as my current line stats:
--- DSL Information ---
DSL Driver Version: AnnexA version - A2pB023k.d21d
DSL VPI/VCI: 0/38
DSL Status: Showtime
DSL Mode: ADSL2+
DSL Channel:
DSL Upstream Rate: 1272 Kbps
DSL Downstream Rate: 18260 Kbps
Down up
DSL Noise Margin: 3.1 dB 5.6 dB
DSL Attenuation: 26.5 dB 13.6 dB
DSL Transmit Power: 0.0 dBm 12.8 dBm
I’m not bothered by wireless, usb ports or gigabit ports. I just want a to keep a similar sync rate, stable noise margins with no disconnections and have access to as much diagnostic information as possible like if interleaving is enabled and if the sync or internet connection went down recently. I’m not fussed if the web interface displays it or if I have to telnet into the router to find out if the connection is interleaved, just so long as I can access this information. The ability to telnet into the router is not vital so long as the web interface displays this kind of information. I’m finding it hard to tell what routers give this information, at least new/current routers available on somewhere like amazon.co.uk. I was looking at a Billion 5200 but there seems to be a black version and white version and on their website there is only a manual for a S version which is not helpful and nothing specifies if I could telnet into it and see if interleaving is on or off. I know draytek vigor's give good diagnostic information but i have found they always sync lower than most other routers which is not something i want.
Price is not too important but obviously the cheaper the better.
Anyone able to recommend me a router that will do this?
I’ve seen posts about different chipsets, ones that are good for longer lines and stuff like that but what I really could do with is just recommendations of routers that offer the features I want for your average short/medium length line. Ideally one that I can actually buy from amazon.co.uk or similar well know stores of a current model, not one that only the version 6 of it does what I want and is no longer made, hard to get, only available on eBay or not actually specified what version your getting when buying.
Does anyone know if this:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-TD-8840T-4-Port-ADSL2-Router/dp/B0041435XU/ display interleaving status and/or is any good?
Any help appreciated.
