Our Sud-Ouest headline news this morning (reported briefly on the TV news last night) is about an event which took place yesterday on the Bordeaux Rocade (by pass) ..... it's like something out of a film. A heavy goods vehicle (38 tonnes) travelling south, driven by a Spaniard was seen, by a police patrol, to be zigzagging, at speed, down the bypass which is the extension to the motorway. This was at 11.30 am .. very busy road at a very busy time. The CRS were on the spot very quickly and to cut a long story short, they managed to get in front of the lorry with one of their vehicles, created a barrier 10 kms further back to stop any traffic ..... the vehicle in front then positioned two officers who shot into the front tyres of the vehicle and then into the engine. A second CRS patrol joined the bypass at a nearby junction, as the vehicle was slowing down following the 6 bullets hitting the tyres and motor, they came up along the drivers side, opening the door, and one officer then jumped into the cab, meanwhile another (3rd) patrol on the passenger side managed to do the same
They averted what could have been a dreadful accident, one of the officers was slightly injured. The driver had apparently suffered a serious Hypoglycemia attack and was taken to Hospital in Bordeaux. Can you imagine this
The road was closed until 4.30 pm. The policed are now analyzing the tachograph and other tests which were carried out on the driver.
Gosh !
I think Legion d'Honneur medals will be awarded in the not too distant future.
