Recommend a VDSL2 WiFi Router
« on: August 05, 2016, 12:19:03 PM »

Hi,

I'm a newbie here hopefully you can assist.

Currently with Plusnet FTTC with a Huawei HG612 modem and a Netgear WNDR3700 router attached, I would like to replace this with a single combined unit.

Main requirement is I would like detailed VDSL line stats, Gb ethernet ports, ability to configure DNS servers for OpenDNS and time based parental control based on MAC or IP addresses so can restrict internet access at different times of day, eg. deny use of Xbox after 9pm at night. Not too concerned about WiFi capability as mainly use homeplugs so just need I guess up to N and ideally dual band but not critical as no other WiFi hotpots near me so no congestion.

Looking at up to £150, anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks !

Both the ZyXEL VMG8324-B10A and the VMG8924-B10A (only difference is 5ghz wi-fi) will fulfil your requirements. I have used both and they work well with DSLStats etc. I know some here have had problems with them but I have not. Others I know use Billion routers but I'll let them mention the models as I dont know them.

OK both those models seems to be old and cannot find anywhere to purchase them from.

I also spotted Zyxel VMG3925-B10 which seems to be current but again no where has it stocked...

You can purchase the VMG8324-B10A from Lamdatek here

The 8924-B10A is also available from them here
Stuff-UK has it very slightly cheaper here

Lamdatek standard shipping is £3.47, Stuff-UK is £4.50.

For the extra £13 I'd be inclined to go with the 8924 to get better WiFi.

There does only seem to be only a few suppliers offering them.

May be a bit late now but ultraview also sell the VMG8924 and give a discount to kitz forum members.
