New Xmas tree
« on: October 30, 2015, 12:31:03 AM »

We have purchased a new Christmas tree it arrived today from QVC it has nice colourful led lights with a remote control,  I tested the tree just after 10pm for 20 minutes and the G.INP TX per min went high and RTX_C and RScorr (Bearer1) and more Lefters.

No sign of extra errored seconds just a slight increase in constant FEC's errors this is going to be a fun broadband crimbo if the master socket or DLM is sensitive to this tree  :-\

Hmm . . . I'll take a look at your statistics on MDWS sometime tomorrow.

From your description it looks as though G.INP is having to work very hard, but is doing its job well. If the connection remains stable, and ES and CRC values don't significantly increase, I think you can enjoy your Christmas. :)

Ok roseway that sounds right this G.INP should keep the CRC an ES at bay the tree is all boxed up again till that time again.

I do wonder if it's the LED lights that cause the extra interference had four sets of normal tree lights on old tree last year and never noticed any impact on modem stats but then last December i didn't have G.INP on this line.

I've had a good look at your statistics (MDWS) and can see that the circuit was managing to keep things under control during the 2200 - 2230 hours time window, yesterday.

You mention that the lights on the new tree are LEDs and have a remote control. What does the remote control . . . er . . . control?

There could be a thyristor in the circuit and such devices are often the source of extraneous RF energy. (Walter can recount a tale of two Thames Water pumps, remote controlled by a circuit using thyristors, which degrade local VDSL2 services by injecting RF energy into the local loop wiring.  :o  )

The remote control changes the Led light phases and power on/off it needs a 9 volt PP3 battery so it must be infrared.

Are old tree was 8 foot and takes 2 hours to setup and decorate the new tree is 4 foot and sits on the table were the DECT phone resides and only takes 3 minutes to setup  ;D

Indeed. An IR link to the power control circuitry. I suspect that the latter circuitry is the source of the interference.

That used to be the fun part when b*cat was just a little b*kitteh:)

Ah well it looks my line had small loss of Snrm of 0.4 dB due to crosstalk this morning at 06:10 a new FTTC customer must have become active on this cabinet.

I too have seen new installs come online at odd hours.

Ive always assumed that it may be for some reason or other the router doesnt actually sync up until some time later.   Its not sometimes helped with Plusnets instructions whereby they use an ambiguous 'midnight' that could mean the day before or day after.
