Gentlefolk,
I have just had to revisit a problem line that took many months to resolve the first time.
Whilst some might just enjoy talking to human beings, there are others who require the fastest problem resolution time.
Many, but sadly not all, faults can be diagnosed automatically, but it's well worth attempting this procedure in the first place.
Assuming you have a broadband connection perhaps at a remote site, launch a web browser and type type in
www.bt.com/faultswhich allows you to enter the faulty line number and then brings up a page asking you to describe the fault.
Once that has been completed the auto-tester might take 30 seconds or so to test the line.
If a fault is detected the fault will be automatically recorded and processing will start immediately.
If the fault is within BT's equipment they will usually rectify the fault within 4 days.
You will have to agree a time for a site visit if the checker says the fault is within your house.
If the auto-tester cannot find a fault then you have to revert to plan B, or accept that BT might charge you if the problem is within your premises.
EDIT Thanks Eric for the addition. I've also included an edited screen picture of the fault details page.
Kind regards,
Walter
