Hi all,

I'm on the 14.99 a month wireless package which i believe to offer speeds off upto 8meg?
My wireless router (netgear dg834g) is showing the following stats:

however when I run a speed test here my speed is well bellow what the router says i am connected at.


Could someone explain please? I am a bit of a novice when it comes to these things.

i dont know if this will help at all, but here are the results of a test i did at speedster.bt.com

Your DSL connection rate: 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM),  448 kbps(UP-STREAM)
    IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
    Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1833 kbps

Hi and welcome.

I'm not very familiar with AOL's setup, but it looks to me as though they've put you on a 2 Mbps capped service. If you do a few more speed tests at different times and never get over 2000 kbps then that's probably the explanation, and you'll need to call AOL and get them to put you on the correct service.

As roseway has suggested, it looks like your line is being capped at 2Mb, but you would need to check at various times of the day just to make sure.

Your actual adsl is provisioned at the full 8Mb and your IPprofile being 7150 suggests that any capping is being done on AOL's part of the network so its more of an account type capping rather than line capping.
