Very unreliable conection to router
« on: February 21, 2009, 04:15:42 AM »

I seem to have some trouble with my wireless connection to router.
Usually everythings fine 1-2 ms to router, no packet loss or timeouts.
In the evenings and at night, my ping to router is often 100-300, instead of the usual 1-2ms, but i assume this to be due to other people connecting.

Sometimes it gets even worse as i am getting genral failure and time outs, as can be seen below, taken just now.
I am the only one connected to the router atm. So it seems that the packet loss and high ping is not due to others connecting.

Are you doing anything else on the internet at the same time as you are pinging the router? If so, you could simply be seeing the effect of the router prioritising routed traffic over ICMP pings. And what sort of result do you get with tracert - e.g. tracert bbc.co.uk ?

Hi bruner,

If Eric's suggestions don't help you could always try home plugs to use use your mains wiring instead of wireless.

Kind regards,
