mswsock32.dll
« on: August 31, 2009, 12:43:10 AM »

Thought it was worth mentioning that my son who has an XP PC operating on my Lan, picked up a trojan yesterday that AVG found but couldn't remove. The main infected file seems to be mswsock32.dll. I renamed it .old in DOS/safe mode and a full AVG scan found four infected files but was able to put them in the vault. A reboot did not show a regenerated .dll so I hope it's fixed. Don't know where the infection came from but I thought a heads up might be useful.

Thanks, Jeff, but I had already found that on Google when first trying to get rid of the little bugger. I really only posted in case it was one that was doing the rounds again and others had seen it. The first references I found to it were in 2007 but the latest Google entries were in July and August 2009. I think it was just an unlucky browse but good for AVG, At least it found it even if it couldn't clear it on its own.
