Disappointed TP-Link User
« on: May 03, 2024, 12:13:57 PM »

So after a long and stable usage my Netgear Nighthawk modem/router died :( , and as I didn't like any off the wing designs and also needed a modem at the time. I purchased  an archer VR2800 (Now EOL!), so after a year the modem stop working, and I had to resort to my Plusnet Hub. No problem as fibre was on the way, I thought. No Wifi in the en-suite but that's not a killer! ;)
So, now with fibre and just using the router and I notice on this months SamKnows data, I had lost a LOT of speed, so open the web GUI and sure enough it was reporting about 1/3 of the download speed, upload was okay. And there was also a large number of disconnections. On a feel test the TP link was warm to the touch
The following day every think was back to normal.

So my problem is this on looking for a new wifi6 router, they all seem to have some form of stability problems. Netgear Asus TP-link.
Unfortunately I don't have the resources to go Open, so please don't put that forward.
But does anybody have any recommendations for a wifi6 brand that's also reasonable good looking as it's on show in my living room?
Thanks.

Fritzbox is 80s/90s style   :)

You could put IPFire on RPi and use powerline adapters. Or use UniFi.

What stability issues has ASUS been having?  Most people seem to report it as being the best mainstream brand.

Also not sure what you mean by not having the resources to go Open.

Time and inclination.
Open as in OpenSense etc!
