@Chrys - Quite so, that was my opinion too. I was speaking of a far-future imagined reality.

@dee.jay - Agreed. I also presumed that that was why BT didn’t do it, but then the Alt-Nets will have a huge advantage, and BT won’t prevent a lot of smaller businesses from avoiding the horrifically expensive products and going for the cheap FTTP 900 / 110 MBps service.

Amusingly BT Business don't sell the 220 product direct off the website. Even their own Group business retailer think the 220 isn't worth bothering with.

Its an odd situation, as surely as a business either 110 will be enough, or 220 wont be nearly enough.  It just doesn't seem enough to charge a premium for.

Our first set of real world deployment testing yielded the above. Very impressed.

Looks about right for 25GPON: now to make an actual product customers will purchase out of it.

Those overheads sure do jump out once you get to such ludicrous speeds.

Oh yeah for sure - one obvious product out of this will be the ablility to offer true 10Gbps symmetric...

Those overheads sure do jump out once you get to such ludicrous speeds.

Of the 10 Gbps that XGSPON runs at 15% is taken up by FEC before you touch the Ethernet layer leaving 8.5 Gbps. Ends up at about 8.3 Gbps of IP. The 25GPON scales similarly.

The overheads don't change as a proportion but for sure 3.75 Gbit/s is more notable than 1.5 Gbit/s.
