One of good things about FTTC is you can see the whole lines stats yet the reason why we felt the need to see it was because FTTC was not that stable under certain conditions long lines and so on but it kind of got us hooked always trying to get the best you could from the Technology at hand have alway done it since the ZX80 to AMD Ryzen 5 3600.
I can't believe with FTTP this is the end of keeping an eye on line stats its just a different way to deliver more zeros and ones reliably yet there will always be errored corrections even in glass/light transmissions

The layer 2 protocols for optical comms could just rely on some layer 2 retransmission mechanisms since the error rate is so amazingly low. Either that or ignore the issue and let layer 4 retransmissions take care of it, not a good idea though. Out if my depth here though as I don’t know what kind of protocol stack might be used.

Hello Weaver the word protocol is a bad word in Nothern Ireland or Norfinland as I call it, and yes checks on the 8 bits in a byte sent and received will still be checked again for anomalies and recorrected.

While it looks complicated it can be simplified Scotland England and Wales left the EU under the Brexit Referendum but NI still remains part of the EU and is separated from the UK all because of bumbling Boris

@NewtronStar, you've been very polite.
Lord Farquaad as an example, and Johnson is synonymous with John Thomas, which are useful in certain situations and dripping bell ends in others.
