HG612 and Annex M
« on: August 20, 2016, 03:29:31 AM »

I was wondering if anyone would be able to help me. I have no experience with the BusyBox shell and so I am scared that I may break something, but I was wondering if anyone knew how to enable Annex M on the HG612? I have the webgui firmware from http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,14262.0.html but as I said, I don't want to play with the command in case I break something. On another note, is it worth me getting broadband with Annex M? What sort of impact would it have on my downstream? I am on MDWS under the same username if anyone needs that info.

The HG612 supports Annex M. If you use DSLstats there's an option on the Login configuration page "Connection is Annex M", so you don't need to issue any commands manually to monitor the stats.

Be aware that Annex M isn't available everywhere, and not every ISP will offer it, so it's a lottery as to whether you will be able to get it.

The effect on downstream speed is roughly 1:1, i.e. the loss of downstream speed is roughly the same as the gain in upstream.

The  HG612 does support annex m but you can't enable it from the gui. To enable annex m you just need to execute the command "xdslcmd configure --mod m " via telnet.  You can set up DSLstats ( Configuration-advanced-custom commands) to do this for you if you wish to avoid direct use of telnet. You could also do snr tweak at the same time eg.  "xdslcmd configure --mod m --snr 70".  With your high sync speed annex m should work very well for you.
