Bonding 2 lines, 1 low ping and 1 high throughput
« on: August 18, 2016, 07:53:38 PM »

Hi,
Is this scenario possible:

2 VDSL lines with a zyxel VMG4325 modem to bond them together.

Line 1: Manually set the sync rate to something low, so that it has a low interleave (or even fastpath?) and therefore low ping for voip/gaming
Line 2: Leave at the maximum rate, which in my case will get interleaved and have a higher ping but more throughput

Then setup the zyxel VMG4325 to prioritise line 1, and when line 1 is full start using line 2?

This way I should have a low ping, but also have the benefit of a bonded line for more downloads (which are mostly p2p multi connections).

Thanks,
AM.

To me that sounds like a sledgehammer to crack a nut where QOS and fq-codel would be better

I have multiple IP-bonded lines, which work superbly well. However this doesn't help with ping times. You just need a good line and excellent ISP for that. Some well-known ISPs make a particular point of being gamer-friendly. (Any guesses? All-together-now…)

Thanks Weaver.

From your other posts I think you use A&A's service to bond your lines with a firebrick or something?

I don't think A&A service my area (i just have BT and Sky fibre), so i guess that means if I cant get A&A i'm limited to load balancing on my side?

Thanks,
AM.

If you have BT then I would have thought that you can get AA or Zen or any other ISPs who resell BT Wholesale's services? Would other kitizens care to comment?

I also share that thought.  :)

I concur, indeed that is my situation with A&A.
