HG612 - AC68U MAC address discrepancy
« on: August 18, 2016, 05:17:38 PM »

Whilst investigating another problem i'm having i logged into my HG612 GUI which reports it's MAC address as 10:C6:1F:DF:31:2A. (Huawei).
But when checking my router AC68U it says device connected to WAN port is A0:F3:E4:35:5E:12 (Alcatel Lucent)

Is this normal?

The original problem which i'm not sure if it's related (but similar MAC) is i'm seeing a client with MAC A0:F3:E4:78:B8:1A (Alcatel Lucent) generating lots of upload data, but i don't have any devices with this MAC. Traffic stats for this client in 1 day was 220 bytes down 29GB up.  :-\

Most modem/router devices will have more than one MAC. There will be one for each separate class of "access portal".

However seeing a hardware MAC which resolves as Alcatel Lucent makes me think that perhaps there is another device connected to the AC68U. I wonder . . . Is your WiFi network sufficiently secure?  :-\

yeah i thought that, thought they would have been the same vendor ID though! network is all secure, and the device never appears in the client or dhcp list!

Didn't we do this before? http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,17100.msg314278.html
yeah, still can't figure it out, weird thing is the MAC address the ac68u is reporting as connected to the WAN port has changed. Still same vendor ID but last 6 have changed.. and i haven't changed the modem or any of the setup. traffic analyser still reports the old MAC as generating the traffic however..  ???
