Ok I just updated the other desktop comp that used to have Win7 on, now Win10. The total update took 3 hours! I noticed that windows update wanted me to install all the other updates available and reboot before it would start the updating process.
I noticed during the process it did 2 lots of 1 to 100%'s. it also at one point changed my graphic settings during the process, then corrected it later.
When I got in to windows again I had to again turn off windows defender and reboot before it would let Avast take over.
Also a curious thing when I loaded up firefox to check the sounds were working properly, it kept telling me firefox wasnt the default app. So I went to settings and went to the default page and it wouldnt let me select firefox. I could select it but it wouldnt appear in the box. Then a button popped up to set default programs. It looked like a windows 7 window. I selected firefox and looked at the settings. It appears it had given Edge authority over 2 of the file associations.. https and another. So I changed these back to firefox and saved it. This seemed to work. I went back to the default apps page and firefox was now listed as the default app for web browsing.
I also updated the laptop too. Again this took over 3 hours. I actually had to use the windows update assistant as the update didnt appear on the windows update checks. What's interesting is the laptop only has windows 10 home on. I had previously gone from Win8 to Win8.1 to Win10.
Again windows defender took over and I had to select to turn all options off and reboot.. then avast took take over.
During the update I had to select custom settings and turn off all the microsoft spying options. Hmm just thinking about this, I didn't have to do that on the old desktop comp I've mentioned. It must have retained my settings. It just loaded straight in to windows.
Apart from the 3 hour duration of this, and the update not showing up in the windows update.. those were the only annoying parts of the laptop update.
I will say that before I rebooted both computers trying to get avast working, they both had cortana fully on with the microphone symbol. But when it rebooted the settings returned to how I had them previously. So cortana for me is NOT active on any of the 3 computers I've updated.
