At least they're good enough to tell you.

interestingly there is rumours that the ASA are close to changing their stance on 'up to' speed advertising.

There is pressure on them to change from 10% of customers to mean averages.

This might explain why this product has been released as obviously having a higher speed cap will push up the mean average speeds.

That would be a shame, as the mean average doesn't tell me what is the theoretical maximum that the service supports.   I'd been pondering it earlier and thinking, what if 'upto' was replaced with a stated range, eg '56kbps-40Mbps'?

That would get the message across to those that misunderstand 'upto', that not everybody will get 40Mbps, and many people might get a lot less.   Yet it still conveys the required information, that the service is capable of 40Mbps when circumstances permit?  :-\

Are people who don't understand what 'up to' means even capable of ordering broadband?

Also you get a speed estimate when you sign up for FTTC anyway so I don't even know what they are thinking.

we might start seeing speeds rated as a range

e.g. 30-55mbps.

Wow, impressive that 20GB is enough for you. I use that in just few hours :D

He's probably got his work arounds...

Nope 20GB is plenty, don't stream films or TV. 38Mbps is also plenty fast enough for me (only had 512kbps until 15 months ago), only rang up out of interest. As it was cheaper, it was a no brainer to upgrade.

512 Kbps? Ouch! I had 1 Mbps up until 2012 then 5 Mbps until I upgraded.

At school we shared 128Kbps ISDN between 250 of us.

I was used to connection speeds of 767mph when I was at school. That's all we had back then. (I'm sure the penny will drop immediately  ;) ).  ;D

I'm just glad the Phone and Internet can both be used at the same time, imagine if it was still the same with VDSL  :D

FWIW by BT Infinity line automatically upgraded from 40MB to 55MB just before midday today with no notice/notification  - so it looks like BT are we'll in the process of upgrading their existing users.

Interesting, I wonder if they'll do this for lines that are banded?
