TP-Link Now Blocking Open Source Custom Router Firmware
« on: March 19, 2016, 06:11:08 PM »

DSLReports that TP Link is doing this. Not sure if a) it has already been reported here or b) if it will affect many folks either. I found this because some TP Link kit is used with custom f/w as a non-router device for communicating with a weather station. It seems to be in response to a US directive from the FCC about making sure people cannot alter RF settings which could cause interference.

I saw an article about that elsewhere. I suppose it only affects the models that were sold with installing OpenWRT or some other custom firmware as a fairly easy to do and officially allowed and advertised option. It's already non-trivial to install a custom firmware onto TP-Link devices with integrated DSL modems.
