« on: March 23, 2015, 04:20:26 PM »

on bt busuiness was under the inpression I would be getting the 1mb upload or near as.

Now data comes in at 7. Maximum data rate:   1228 / 8128  yet BT are saying it can only be 448?

4. Board version:   BT Business Hub 3.0A
5. ADSL uptime:   0 days, 00:30:51
6. Bandwidth:   448 / 8128

Depends on what the base product is - ADSL Max is up to 8128 down, and either 448 or 896 up, the higher figure being sold as "Max Premium".

That is a product sold by BTwholesale, but not by BT Retail.

If you can get ADSL 2+, then there is no standard upstream speed - it varies around the 900 kbps mark.

I was under the impression you had BT  Home/Residential which got 448  and   BT Business/premium. 832

Afraid not. BT Retail, both business and residential, no longer do Max Premium. There may still be some legacy users on Max Premium packages, but they were withdrawn from new sale a few years ago.

Is it just BT that have stooped max premium or have all the other isp followed there lead? I have made a big mistake upgrading to business thinking it was premium. They told me the uplaod was upto 1 mb, fell for it thinking business got the 832  but really it is capped to upto 1/2mb.

Attainable rate just shows what your router thinks the line is capable of, if all restrictions are removed. What limits the actual speeds you get is the package you are on, so no new BT Retail users on Max Premium if they are on the up to 8 Mb service. On ADSL 2+ upstream is usually around 900-1000 Kbps.

There's also Annex M, which shifts the goalposts even further on ADSL 2+, taking some of the downstream bandwidth away in order to increase the upload to around 1.5 Mbps - again, BTwholesale sell this, but BT Retail don't buy it.

@ usermac - how long have you been with BT Business, and what package are you on? It may well be a legacy package (Network) and you are paying a premium price for the higher upload.

I was connected 23rd of this month and So far seems okay latency and downloads are better now at peak times than what I was getting on the residential. I read that ADSL MAX Retired in 2014 and was replaced by a new service Wholesale Broadband Connect. Only Wholesale Broadband Connect   (WBC) is BT Wholesale's up-to-24 Mbit/s 21CN exchange but my exchange is still a 20CN which never got upgraded so I think they may or have continued to use the legacy max premium until the exchange gets upgraded to 21cn.
