I actually saw a small scale version of such a display, in the autumn of 1975, located in central Liverpool! The most amazing moment was at the end, when they took to their individual roost trees in what seemed to be less than 3 seconds.

They're amazing birds, and the photography there was beautiful.

I occasionally get a mini-murmuration outside my back door - only a couple of hundred starlings I guess, but they behave in exactly the same way, finally dropping down to roost in some trees in a neighbour's garden. Wonderful. :)
