Does IPlayer require uPnP enabled?
« on: February 26, 2012, 07:44:19 PM »

My set up is Win7 Home Premium 64 bit, Windows Firewall, AVG Free 2012. Thomson TG585 v7 router, ISP Plusnet with dynamic IP address allocation.
Present internet connections are to computer by Ethernet, and to my PVR through Ethernet per HomePlugs for BBC IP;ayer and ITV Player. At some time I will look in to an app to stream radio to the OH's IPod Touch, or even get an internet radio. Our house is under a hill that weakens the signal from the main transmitter 20 miles distant, to break up

Do I need uPnP enabled now, and am I likely to need it if my plans fructify? Is uPnP safe, as I keep getting "uPnP Action Add ( Delete) Portmapping 192.... (Successful) event messages on the router?

I hope info given is all needed and that you can guide me. Please! :)

Hi
I Run Iplayer no problem without uPnP being enabled.
Whether uPnP is safe ?? there is apparently some added security risk not sure exactly what . I took the advice to Not enable uPnP  unless absolutely necessary.
Regards Jeff

edit seehttp://wiki.openwrt.org/doc/howto/upnp for some info
