Help with understand NTE-2005 Master and normal master

Hi all,

Okay so I don't know much about wiring so bear with me plz..

I have the main BT line outside, which connects to the "Master socket" in my living room. This master is not BT branded, it looks pretty old and simply has one socket in the middle. It looks exactly like the top image on this page: http://www.wppltd.demon.co.uk/WPP/Wiring/UK_telephone/uk_telephone.html

It has I believe two extensions coming of it which go to two extension sockets elsewhere is the house. Now my goal is to have a socket in my room (Upstairs).. As far as my understanding goes I can simply connect another wire (black thing containing lots of wires) to the master and run it to my room.

But what I want the best possible internet speeds in my room, So I have been looking at the NTE-2005 Master Faceplate.

My questions is: Do I have to replace my current master socket downstairs with this one? Then connect the extension cables again including my new one to my room?
Or do I have the NTE-2005 Master Faceplate in my room and connect that to the master downstairs?

Any help would be fantastic, thanks

Hmm that's a bit confusing with 3 cables coming in (2 black, 1 white) but only 2 wires into the master socket terminals.
Can you clarify what is/isn't connected?
And which wire is "incoming"?

Also you can remove the single orange wire in terminal number 3, it's the "bell wire" and is superfluous these days but degrades broadband.

As for replacing that socket, no you can't as BT own it.
