Adobe Air ??
« on: August 18, 2011, 08:37:31 AM »

I have a box which popped up this morning telling me to update Adobe AIR .  On checking my list of programmes there are several Adobe entries  :-

 :Adobe AIR Installer
: Adobe AIR
: Adobe Download Manager
: Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX
 Adobe Flash Player 10 Plugin

I knew about the Flash Player and Manager .... but this AIR thing has me baffled.   The only thing I can  think is that it has been downloaded and installed during an Adobe Flash Player update.    I have not downloaded it myself.    Do I need this AIR thing   ... I have the Update minimised for the moment until I'm more clear, with the kind help of someone  :)   .......  Many thanks in anticipation.

Adobe Air is a sort of super java/flash all rolled into one prog which is designed to enhance certain aspects of your browsing experience, and may be of use to gamers, or those who want lots of images/videos/animations of a superior quality.

For normal browsing, it is not required and can be safely dispensed with.

I have Adobe AIR installed, but never bother to update it,just leave it where it is.Perhaps I should uninstall it..does it have no bearing on Flash or Adobe reader if removed.?

@ unkyUb........no, it has no effect on these progs. and being rid of it will not affect the running of these other two items.

Spoke too soon.......

Just tried Java this morning and wouldn't work,so I thought it was ok before I removed Adobe Air.. ???

So I did a system restore to before Adobe Air was removed..and now Java works fine....

I have no option but to use Adobe Air as it is needed because I use the BBC iPlayer desktop.

If I get rid of it then the BBC iPlayer desktop no longer works !
