Hi Phil.
I got my Daughter a Acer Aspire 5738Z two years ago from
http://www.ebuyer.com/257439-acer-aspire-5253-laptop-lx-rd502-059
I think this one supersedes it now
http://www.ebuyer.com/257439-acer-aspire-5253-laptop-lx-rd502-059
She as had no problems with it and uses it most days for school work.
I made it a dual boot Windows ( which she does not use !) and PCLinuxOS, she can do everything and more with Linux than her old XP desktop ! with the added advantage that she does not get any viruses etc.
Come on Phil you know it's time to go over to Linux
.
