New Java 1.7 release
« on: August 04, 2011, 07:38:04 AM »

As this is a new version/update of Java does it have to be installed manually or will it be rolled out via auto updates?

It has been available a few days via Filehippo, but as yet when I check on the Java site it says, 'congratulations, you have the recommended Java installed,(version6,update 26)

Java has got a bit more complicated now that it's been sold to Oracle. Java.com still offers version 6, but the Oracle Java site offers version 7. It's probably best to wait awhile and let the dust settle.

You will need to install manually, and then uninstall any older versions you have.

I would recommend that you hold off installing this new version.......there are a great number of reported serious problems with it across the several forums.

Let them iron out the bugs before proceeding.

I have seen a thread over at the C/A forums where users have updated manually and then deleted the previous version without any problems reported... ???

I only had a quick read but I think end users are not affected, it is more server apps and developers that are being hit.

Having looked further this is the JDK version and not for end users Java6 update 26 is still current. (http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_manual.jsp?locale=en )

I have downloaded Java 1.7 from Filehippo. It has installed fine without any problems.I then went to the add/remove programmes and uninstalled version 6.

I then restarted my computer and the older version had been removed from browser extensions/plug-ins when it was opened again. :)

Just download it from here Kate

http://www.filehippo.com/download_jre_32/

Then check that it is ok by clicking on this link

http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp?jre_version=1.7.0&vendor=Oracle+Corporation&os=Windows+Vista&os_version=6.0

The new one is 1.7.0

Then go to add/remove programmes, you should see version 7 which has just been installed and also version 6.(update 26 was the latest one).Remove it and then restart your computer.
Then when you open firefox you should just see Java console 7 in the extensions list and in the plug-in list you should just see Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.0.147  10.0.0.47 and Java(TM) Platform SE7 10.0.0.147

Now being told its not compatible with FireFox 6.........

Is it possible to revert back to Java 1.6.26

It is working due to the fact I am using the compatibility reporter add-on

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/add-on-compatibility-reporter/

>> Is it possible to revert back to Java 1.6.26 <<

Go to filehippo http://www.filehippo.com/download_jre_32/ , download and save the older version.

Uninstall the new version you want rid of.

Install older version.
