Here is a minute from a recent meeting of my town council
Superfast Broadband for...
John Watkins Tayler, Delivery Manager for Next Generation Access, explained the introduction of super fast fibre access to .... He apologised that he would normally have visited sooner, before any work had started, but an opportunity to bring the scheme forward in the town had arisen and installation was already under way.
He explained that the fibre would be capable of delivering download speeds of up to 40Mbit/s and upload speeds of up to 15Mbit/s. The fibre connection goes to a powered cabinet in the street and there would be 18 of these cabinets installed in the ... area. These cabinets had been designed to be much smaller and less obtrusive than existing cabinets and measured 1128mm(H) x 750mm(W) x 407mm(D). It was hoped that work to install the cabinets would be carried out within 10 days for each location. During this phase, about 7000 premises in ... would benefit from having access to the fibre network; 6220 residential, 351 business and 261 mixed premises.
Mr Watkins Tayler agreed to provide a list of addresses that would have access to the fibre network and a list of proposed locations for the cabinets.
I'm confused as the BT cabinets are well underway. Is it that the council are rahrer uninformed, or is a futher fibre provider coming to the town.
