How Do I find Out Computer Spec ?.
« on: July 05, 2011, 12:04:23 PM »

Has I do not use windows any more I have forgot how to do this.

What's the easiest way to ask ask someone (not computer skilled  ) to give technical details about there computer .?

What's needed are the type of CPU and speed and if it's say a 'Pentium4'  or faster and RAM etc.

I need to know how to do it for all the common windows operating systems.

The simplest way is to use Belarc advisor, it`ll give you very detailed info about what hardware you have Mobo,CPU, Graphics card, even HDDs  etc, What Software is installed included keys/serials etc and windows hotfixes & missing ones too IIRC.

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

Its free and a great little program works on XP up to Win7 64bit.

Regards.

Belarc is also happy to run on the oldies Win2K through Win95. And yes, it's an excellent program.

And don't forget SiSoft Sandra Lite - the free version @ http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/?d=&f=downandbuy&l=en&a=

Cheers,

Yes that's correct, what I'm trying to do is to get some Free computers from freecycle for my Linux testing and I cannot ask people to install some software (some of these people will not understand how to do that  ;))
I'm looking for fast Pen4 machines or better as all my test machine are old.

I have been offered a eMachines XP run computer and he said it buried under stuff in his spare room and cannot do any of the above tests and does not know how old or the spec.
Would you think it's a pent3 or 4 spec ?.

If I was you I would just have what is on offer and take everything.

That way you will have extra parts for when you do get the one you want, like graphic or sound card or even network cards.

In other words collect lots of parts then build the computer when you have what you need.

And get/note the product keys before you format or delete them as they could come in handy.

Yes It may be easier .
Edit..... I've had one offered me, what I'm helping to test is some free software for Schools in underdeveloped countries. :)

I had two computers from freecycle both due to go to the local tip, from them I built a WHS.

What part of the country do you live in?

I have a mate with two computers in loft he may want to get rid of as he offered me them.
