US authorities have access to European cloud data

Microsoft admits Patriot Act can access EU-based cloud data

It is already a known fact that Cloud providers servers are easily accesible to hackers/crackers, now we see that the positively seive like qualities of US Govt. agencies servers are also available to leak your data to any schoolboy that wants it.

Frightening indeed, but not that surprising really. How could anyone expect data of any kind be secure when in the cloud computing environment? What is surprising is the power given to the all mighty US. How many networks are involved in this cloud computing, both here and abroad?

My attitude has always been that all my data will reside on my disks, within my own environment. It is my responsibility to ensure the data integrity by maintaining suitable regular backups.

No latest "gee-whiz" buzz-word will ever change my opinion.

I have wondered if the Chinese made network equipment being installed by BT is secure. I remember that David Blunkett raised this matter a couple of years ago. Having said that, I suppose that I could be equally paranoid about US or French equipment. Maybe I need to sever my Internet connection, build myself a Faraday cage, get a load of batteries to power my PC and do all my computing in my new secure environment!

Cheers,
Peter

@ Peter,

Of course it is secure between vendor and purchaser !!!!!!!!!!!!

Given that a foreign agency allegedly managed to change the centrifuge controller software to spin at the maximum speed but only report the normal operating speeds in Iran, I suspect that the whole WWW is compromised and must be considered an unsafe environment.

Kind regards,
Walter
