My garden
« on: June 23, 2011, 06:37:37 PM »

Thought some of you may (or may not) be interested in what has been taking up a huge portion of my time for the past couple of months.

Some days when the weather has been fine Ive been working from 9am till 9pm on 'my project' (and several days during not so nice weather).
Its still far from finished and I need to get another ton of decorative stones to top up whats there now to bring the bottom of the garden level... and quite a few other bits and pieces.. but this is progress so far.

Im hugely proud of this, aside from the new fencing with the aid of a neighbour, Ive done all the work myself. Ive had very limited cash to spend and all of the flags/rockery stones have been reclaimed/already there and jetwashed to come up like new.

Its not like these fancy brand spanking new type gardens that you see in magazines where people have spent £100's/£1000's on their gardens and my biggest expense was the fencing.
The log roll edging was bought from a poundstore at a vastly cheaper price than garden centre... it just took me days to treat about 25 rolls of the stuff, and another few days to put it in. :D

Ive shifted gravel and gawd knows how many bags of compost and ornament bark. Done in several trips in my lil car whose nose was almost pointing skywards due to the weight in the boot :D  Ive ached so many days from moving concrete panels on my own... Ive been covered in muck and grime so many days from jetwashing and clearing out the pond, Ive been covered in fence preserve as Ive gone though about 4 tubs of the stuff...  but here we go at how it looks now..

(bear with me whilst I upload the photos)

This is where the shed used to be, its a sun-trap for most of the day. The flags were reclaimed and jetwashed, and have come up really well

All the rockery stones used for edging where either there or hidden behind the old shed. They came up a treat when jet-washed.

Cut down the shrubs/bushes at the end of the garden and reclaimed about another 4 foot of garden

New Fences and put in the log edging. Took days to paint everything.

'Sunken patio'. Much of the day this is in half shade from the tree, but gets full sun from about 2pm onwards.
Nearly broke my back putting in the concrete slab edging myself. Gawd it was heavy . Found it behind the old shed and cleaned it up. Still need to add some more gravel/pebbles here to bring the height up level.

Used about 8 large bags of compost for the beds on the right.. and 4 bags of ornamental bark on the left. Took a few trips in my lil car as the front end was starting to point skywards when they were in the boot

Shed's new location which hides the wheelie bin area.

Thank you everyone... cant wait to get it finished now so I can chill out in it and hopefully enjoy some sun.... but then again theres the front garden too

Should also say thanks to my dad who let me raid his greenhouse and supplied me with numerous plants, shrubs, flowers and seedlings etc.

.. and finally, sorry eric, but I had to get rid of the 'wild-life corner' where I used to let a few nettles and such grow previously, but this is now impractical as its right by the new location of the sun patio.  Ive retained a lot of the budleas though, theyve just been hacked back to a more manageable height so hopefully will still attract lots of butterflies next month
