Searching Kitz problems
« on: June 17, 2011, 08:41:27 PM »

Hi

We're sorry...

... but your computer or network may be sending automated queries. To protect our users, we can't process your request right now.
See Google Help for more information.

This is the message I get when trying to search  Kitz site for "profile" or other searches .

If I go directly through Google using  ( Kitz  + profile ) I get the URL for the appropriate Kitz page .

Any Ideas ?

Regards Jeff

There are various ways to use Google search, and I'm not sure exactly what is failing. Could you clarify exactly what you're doing?

If I type the following in the Firefox search box (which is configured to use Google):

antidisestablishmentarianism site:forum.kitz.co.uk

it works properly (5 hits, would you believe? :) )

If I go to the Google advanced search page that works too.

[Edit] Perhaps you're referring to the search facility on the main Kitz site? This also works now, but maybe had a problem yesterday?

On further investigation, this seems to be an issue with certain browsers. The Google search facility on the main site works fine with Firefox, but fails with Opera, and also fails with a Linux browser called Konqueror. I'm going to check it on a friend's XP machine with Internet Explorer.

Opera 11.11 in Win7 add the above to the Google search and it works perfectly.

I think I misunderstood the problem Adrian. It refers to the search facility on http://kitz.co.uk which uses Google search.

I've now tried both IE and Firefox on Windows XP and both fail. It seems that the only browser on which the search facility works correctly is Firefox on Linux. I confess to being baffled at the moment.

I have just gone into Google search via the main site and after typing 'security' into the box I get the same message as what Jeff is experiencing..

Its the same with FF4 and Google Chrome.

Edit...also the same with Opera 11.11 Windows Vista.

Ahh, got you now >> http://kitz.co.uk/sites/site_search.htm  <<  it may well be cured by re installing the Google search code , I  remember having a similar issue on a vBulletin forum a couple of years back.

I ended up changing the Google search box for a slightly different design and had no issues afterwards. If it persists all you can do is ask Google.

Seems like we are not alone in this issue.  It would appear google has changed something..  and numerous other sites have been reporting the same issue with the site search function since the 16th of June.
As yet I havent found a solution.   I will try reinstalling it later when I get chance to see if that works.
