Good morning one and all and thank you for all the comments.

Well, at least I can get onto the forum again, but it is so slow.........my connection, not the forum.

Don't know what is going on.....I can open sites ok, but then the forums stick and that is still happening on four of my favourite sites but others are zipping along at top speed.

Frustrating.

If some sites are fast and others are slow, that suggests that the problem may be in your own setup, possibly in your malware protection. I suggest that you try the BT Speedtester which will tell you your IP profile and raw download speed.

Try www.speedtest.net

It will give you and idea of your downstream/upstream speed, but won't show your IP profile as the BT one does.

                              noise                9.5db  down      24.0db  up

Your upstream noise seems high @ 24.0db,others might confirm this.

Done av/malware scans...........all clear.

Disabled all real time protections.......no difference.

Re-enabled all such protection in all combinations...no change.

Uninstalled/re-installed Java.....no change.

Uninstalled/re-installed flash player.....no change.

Uninstalled/re-installed Opera...no change.....and am getting the same problems in IE

Virgin media support say there is no problem at their end  :-X

Will shut down and reboot router........see you sometime in the future.. :fingers:

The problem is now restricted to only three Forums.......Kitz, Opera Borwser, and TechSupport....

No, 24 dB is good. It's the noise margin, not the noise level. TD's stats and test speeds are very good - no problem at all there.

This is really strange. The Opera browser forum doesn't use any ads, so that's not the problem. In fact it's a very simple web page with no slow elements, so it should load very quickly. Taking into account the checks you've done, the only things I can think of are:

- a problem with DNS
- some very strange quirk of traffic management by the ISP

You can check for a DNS problem by opening a command line window and typing

ping kitz.co.uk

and

ping myopera.com

and for comparison:

ping bbc.co.uk

In all cases you should get response times of a few tens of milliseconds; if any of those are significantly longer, that may be the problem.

TD is with Virgin (not cable) irrc. :)

Seems that Virgin have router problems which is/was affecting loading of certain websites.

Not sure if this is Virgin cable only or whether it would also affect Virgin National

Try changing your IP if you are not on a static IP.

How do you do that?

Well open up router and make a note (copy it down) of your user name then delete some or all of it to make it invalid and let router try to connect, leave it for a while then put the correct information back in and see if speed has increased.

It does make a difference with some ISP's as I have used this trick many times in the past.

EDIT:

Make a note of what your IP is now before you change it.
http://www.whatsmyip.org

If you change it quite a lot you get to know the good IP ranges

I also used to use it to change IP daily in the past but that was for other reasons.

I have just pinged those sites you listed Eric

Kitz = average 23ms

BBC = average 23ms

My Opera = average 64ms  ???

Ran the pings twice with virtually the same results

Edit....I have just opened Opera and have opened the sites you have mentioned with no problem...Kitz,my Opera and Opera forums.

That's OK Phil. The Opera site is hosted in Norway, whereas the other two are in the UK.
