Update Forum Software
« on: October 06, 2007, 01:48:24 PM »

Ive just performed a critical SMF update to SMF 1.1.4

When I started there wasnt anyone online - but now its finished I notice a few regs are about - so sorry if some of you may have seen weirdness/unavailable in the past few mins or so.

I normally do updates during the wee small hours and meant to last night...  but totally forgot. :(

No comment Kitz, but surely it would be easier to disable the forum whilst running an update?

Are there any significant changes we should be aware of?

I normally do - and I looked and thought no-one around.   Then went into the CP where it tells you there is an update due.

Theres some new fangled auto upgrade thing now - where you dont have to separately download files - then upload to your site etc etc like in the past.

Now its a case of "ooh look theres a new update"  - click - and away it goes all automatically.
Its rather sweet actually and makes it very easy and quick... in fact it was updating before I realised it.  :D

Quickest forum update that Ive ever done - In fact it probably would have taken me longer to take it offline and then put it back up again than it did for the upgrade. I'm actually impressed how it was streamlined.

No-one probably noticed - and the only reason I did mention it was on the off-chance that someone may have got a forum error.
TBH I wasnt even sure if it auto took it offline as part of the process - hence me also mentioning it in here to see if anyone had noticed anything.

I dont think this will effect anything for the users.
LIke I say the upgrade notification this time was different than previous and there was a big highlight in red when you logged in as admin. - First time I can recall seeing that.

Simple Machines is proud to announce the release of SMF 1.1.4.

This release mainly addresses some security issues and fixes a few small bugs.

Theres only one thing I can think it may have changed that it user affecting and thats to do with the sign up process which Ive made some mods to.
I'll check that in a mo and make sure that a tick box to hide email is ticked by default rather than the user having to physically tick it.

[edited to add]

Checked - still the same. so afaik no "user side" changes.
