ADSL dropps when phone rings.
« on: April 29, 2011, 01:16:40 PM »

Hello All,

I have had this issue since December 2010 with my BT broadband, whenever the phone rings the BB disconnects and the connection does not seem to hold for more than two days. Over the months we have had 15 engineers to the house and I have another coming on Saturday.

What has been done

•   3 Lift and shifts
•   4 tie pair modification
•   New homehub 3.0
•   New ADSL V.10 master socket

Anyone have any advice? As we know when the phone rings the CRC error go over 300+ and lose sync

Thanks

Have to be quick here I'm afraid, going out soon.

You have (99%) a 'HR fault'. Ring your SP and request another visit and INSIST they put on the notes what happens when phone is lifted, and that it is a probable HR fault.

HR= High Resistance.

That's the nature of HR faults - they are often intermittent.

Could the good v bad days be weather related? That question is more rhetorical as you are definitely showing symptoms of a HR fault.

Now then, this could be interesting. On a works DG this same symptom has been mentioned as a few EU's have experienced problems like yours when (and only when) they have been migrated from 20CN to 21CN. The EU's have also had numerous visits with no long-term results.
Apparently, this issue is now being dealt with at a higher level.

<Disclaimer> Obviously, each EU's 'fault' situation should be treated individually and on their own merits, as the above may only pertain to particular SP's equipment.

Hi all,

Another boost engineer today, we now think it could be a rein problem but are unsure. When I tested at the exchange direct onto the MDF the speed was 8meg this is a 21cn profile? As I have been talking about this with others it seems this has come out more since 21cn upgradeds. To day we had an e side and tie pair mod. Bit still drops. I think it's time to stuff the staff broadband and go to virgin!
