What do you make of these graphs?
« on: April 19, 2011, 12:25:33 PM »

Since BTo line repair all was good until last evening and a period this morning, then look what was going on for a time (see att). Any suggestions?

Those graphs are a bit fuzzy, but as far as I can see the connection speed is exactly the same after each event. This makes me wonder if it's possibly just Routerstats reporting errors, not actual disconnections. Can you consult the Router log, and see if it's recorded anything during the period in question?

Hi
what router is it that you are monitoring ?

The Noise margin dropped a little then the SNR spiking got very bad .What is your sampling rate ?. Can you telnet your router so that you can have 2 views of the noise margin and the synch rate . Normally if there are reporting errors on RS its not shown on both sets of graphs .

Did everything eventually settle down ?

Hi! You are right about the connection speeds. Moi  :-[ as the only logs found are Event logs that show nothing.
Is the Router log hidden away somewhere?

If not recording errors could there be problems with finding and holding on to an IP server?

Hi! TG585 v7 8.2.6.5

Again  :-[ the forgettery has excelled and I hve failed to telnet successfully.

Sample rate 30secs

Settled for a while until ca.3 pm then another bout, a period of peace until ~5.40 then and ~18.05 when there were two instances.

Hope my ramblings may be of use.

I don't think there's anything wrong, apart from a problem between Routerstats and the router. If the events log shows nothing, then it looks as though nothing happened. Perhaps you could try Routerstats-Lite in place of Routerstats - it doesn't give as much information as the full program, but it's much lighter in  operation and may not suffer from the problem.

Ah, right. :)

I suppose you're not running anything else at the same time which reads data from the router, such as DMT? This could conflict with Routerstats-Lite and cause the apparent interruptions. Otherwise I can only suggest that your router and RS-Lite don't get on, and you should look at the events log from time to time to see if anything untoward has happened.

:-\They must have got on before, as this strange behaviour has only just arisen. This morning sync is running  at 7884 but on 2dB Margin.

There seem to be a hefty number of FEC errors down.

For that attenuation it's something of a miracle that you have such a high  connection speed. You might find it a good idea to force a re-boot during the hours of darkness, which will give you a lower speed but better stability (and a lower error rate).
