BBC broken?
« on: March 29, 2011, 10:47:08 PM »

I was watching the weather forecast on BBC1 and it hung. Now the whole of the BBC seems gone.
Apparently confirmed by: http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/bbc.co.uk
And http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph?site=bbc.co.uk can't resolve the hostname

Anybody else lost the Beeb? Or is it just my DNS??

Cheers,
Peter

Nice to know it's not just me.
Hope Radio4 can broadcast the Today programme tomorrow - else it's nuclear war :)
Cheers,
Peter

It's back now, but it was completely dead for a time last night.

I wondered what had happened too   !!  Thank you for the link TD  :) .....   this morning I have sound distortion on one of the stations   ::)  this has happened several times,  then righting itself ... it's obviously a fault at "their end"  as other stations and 'listen again' are clear.  Possibly connected to last night's problem I suppose  :shrug2:

It brings home to you just how significant the BBC website is in so many people's lives. It really gave me a strange feeling when it disappeared totally from the internet, and even DNS lookup didn't recognise it. :(

Do you know Eric, I know exactly what you mean by 'strange feeling' .  Whilst the BBC are not my favourite people by any means,   .... it is one of the first pages I look at and I do use the radio section of the iPlayer a lot !  For a few seconds I felt totally cut off, even though I could access other news sites; in fact I checked with the TV that the BBC were still broadcasting  ::)  I can only describe the feeling as   'spooky'.   Having said that, the gurgling sound coming out of my speakers this morning is driving me potty and making me wish it was off  ;D   (I have changed channels,  in case anyone is thinking I'm listening to gurgling  ;D )

I'm slightly embarrassed to admit that I did the same. ;D
