Reuse Tiscali Router?
« on: March 27, 2011, 12:40:32 PM »

Hi

I have finally left Tiscali and signed up to IDNet, the only catch in what is otherwise a better and cheaper service is that I have to provide the router.

I am pretty sure I know the answer but I thought I should ask, is it possible to reuse the Thomson TG585 with Tiscali firmware to connect to a different provider?

Alternatively  can anyone recommend a 'cheap as chips' router (ADSL max)?

Cheers

I just found....
http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,5087.0.html

It looks pretty relevant and helpful. I'll try the reset/firmware update etc when the new connection is activated.

Cheers

You should be fine with your present router, just delete the Tiscali profile and use the standard settings, or do a factory reset and go from there.

Local Sainsbury's has a D-lInk (or maybe Belkin - I'm sure of the price but not the make!) ADSL Wireless Router (Model unknown) + USB wireless dongle for £16 insted of the usual £20.
It's only b/g not n.

But it's cheap.

Cheers,
Peter

Thanks for the replies guys!

It was even easier than I expected, I just changed the login details in the set up screen and it worked.

Its funny, I can't put my finger on it but the connection 'feels' different, maybe its just because its not Tiscali :)

Thanks again
