Opera & Google Maps
« on: March 27, 2011, 10:49:50 AM »

First off I use Linux, though that shouldn't matter. The problem has arose recently that when using Opera I cannot zoom, pan up nor down when using Google maps. I can pan left and right without problem. I can enter a place name in the search bar and zoom to that place. If I try to zoom from that position I just get the message in the attachment. Once I have that then no matter what I do it is stuck until I move away from Google maps and open it up again.
All works fine with Firefox. I have cleared Opera and all hidden opera files from my computer, shut down the computer, restarted and re-installed Opera.
I have also removed the current version 11, cleared all hidden files, shut down and installed an earlier version of Opera with the same result.

Any ideas anybody please?
Thank you in advance.

P.S. I've just tried it in Windwows XP. Same result.

There has always been a limit of zoom.

Yes, but I get this even when I try to pan up or down. I used to be able to go to street view where it was available.

I see what you mean, just tried Opera.

IE8 and XP work fine.
Firefox 3.6.13 and XP is fine.

Works just fine for me on Opera version 11.01 build 1190.....running on XP

@ ss44 ........does your monitor meet  the minimum requirement of 1024x768 and/or the recommended 1280x1024 32 bit colour.

What happens in Opera if you "mask as Firefox"   ( open Google maps, right click on blank area of the page then > edit site preferences>network>browser identification )

I have two monitors running, 1 is 1600 x 900 @ 60hz the other is 1024 x 768 @ 60hz.
Masquerading has no effect. It used to work just fine.

Thank you TD. & BritBrat.

There is something very wrong with Google Maps/Opera , call any map and you cannot move anywhere but left/right, the zoom feature is borked as the slightest change makes the map disappear permanently.

This is new behaviour , I have never had a problem before .

Thank you AdrianH. A second opinion is always welcome. I've sent Opera a fault report.

Opera have issued a patch for  this....pro-tem until their next browser release.

go help>check for updates.........it will do it's thing and then tell you that you have the latest version of Opera, but that check will download a javascript patch to cure the problem.

And that is why it has been working for me......I did the above check a few days ago and must have that patch already installed.

Thank you TD. I checked for an update when this started, but there was nothing there. Now I have installed Opera 11.1 and it works just fine.
Thanks again.

I had forgotten that this is a trick of Opera's...... :-[...every time you check for a program update, you get a "silent" or invisible javascript update.

Useful thing to know.......if you encounter a scripting problem on a site, simply check for an update, it may just cure the problem.

Must remember that... ::)
