Create multipage pdf from online documents
« on: March 06, 2011, 08:43:23 AM »

From online documents with an address like https://www.xxx.gov.uk/xxx/xxxearchresults_new.asp I sometimes want to make a pdf of all the pages. I have found that only the page I am viewing is printed.

I have not discovered how to print all pages at once. Is that possible and how do I, please?

Nowhere near my comfort zone is this, but mine will always print the full doc unless certain parameters are changed. Not the answer, I know, but could you not paste into 'Word' and print from there ???

I'm not sure about Windows, but with Linux I print any page that I want included to a file ( a postscript file ) instead of the printer. I then have a program whereby I import the .ps files and arrange them as I want. I can then export them all as a pdf file.
Maybe there is this sort of method in Windows.

The easiest way in Windows is to instal the free version of CutePDF Writer ............get the current version at http://www.filehippo.com/download_cutepdf_writer/

It instals as a "virtual" printer........when you want to create a PDF from a particular page, click on the "print" button and the dialogue will open showing your installed printers amongst which will be CutePDF......direct your job at that and let it do it's thing.

I have Cutepdf and it's good. However, it only prints the current page. What I want to achieve is printing all pages without having to select them one by one.

Can you give an actual example of a page that causes problems?
Are you trying to print pages that you haven't actually viewed?

You could try using PDFFactory Pro - but the free version prints "Created with trial version" along the bottom.
I prefer it to CutePDF, especially for use with Excel, even with the above caveat.
You can gradually build up the .pdf with pages (even from different sources) and then finally save the whole .pdf.
So as you view each document you can "print" it as additional pages to a single .pdf.

Its cousin Fineprint is also useful. http://www.fineprint.com/index.html

Cheers,
Peter

I've just discovered here that Internet Explorer allows you to print all linked pages:
http://goodle.crmreports.com/2006/01/print-entire-website-with-internet.html
I tried it from BritBrat's THIS link using PDFFactory as the "printer".
After waiting for a couple of minutes it has indeed printed every link on the page - into a single 55 page pdf.
The beauty of PDFFactiory is that you can preview this, and delete any unwanted pages.

Dunno if Firefox can do it too - couldn't see how from a cursory look at the options.

Years ago HP had a utility which showed the hierarchy of links on any website, on the lhs of  the actual webpage.
You could then select which pages in the hierarchy to print. Seems that it doesn't exist any more, though. It was at least 10 years ago I last used it!

Cheers,
Peter
