Hi
On RS you can read the actual SNR margin or SNR directly by clicking on the actual graph.personally I find  SNR margin more useful than SNR  :) for trouble shooting

Can you post your DMT results and perhaps some differences in settings can be seen?.

Don't think Ive ignored your request Jeff.

Strangely, I'm having difficulty getting DMT and Routerstats to connect to the TG585v7.

I've re-downloaded both, just in case the originals had been corrupted but still no joy which is puzzling me as it's never happened before although I'm not associating this with the problem under discussion.

Perhaps there's a telnet problem.

wasn't the 585v7 the one thomson locked down the fw in so it wouldn't connect to RS or DMT ???

No, I can normally run both (not at the same time).......until now......just remembered a WinXP update earlier this week, I wonder if that's the culprit ?

OK the problem is resolved :-

1. My router was on its 59th day of uptime

2. I have only ever reset the router back to factory settings once, when there was a firmware upgrade.

3. Before doing a System Restore back to before the WinXP update on the 9 March, I decided to hard reset the router back to factory settings as I could not Telnet into the router.

4. Tone 89 is now at 14 bits and Tone 102 is now at 2 bits

So there you have it, perhaps it's good practice to resync or reset the router on a routine basis.

Edit : Routerstats and DMT now connect and run correctly. There was obviously something affecting port 23 rather than the telnet operation.

@jeffbb >>>>> your first post on page 1 of this thread, I believe, analysed the "problem" correctly.

Hi

The bit allocation table is created during the router start up . So if for some reason a tone was identified as unusable then that tone remains in that state till the next reboot .
Rebooting ocasionally is a good way to ensure you are having the optimised bit loading EDIT you can select the time to give max synch rate ,that is when your SNR margin is maximum. You have to pick your time if possible . On a very stable line with little change in SNR marin its not so important . If a line is subject to serious loss of SNR margin then its best NOT to resynch to get max speed , as that may well result in disconnections during busy periods .

I'm confused now....which 585v? did thomson lock down if it wasn't v7, or was it just the ones they supplied to ISPs (i.e., tiscali, tt and others) they had locked fw ??

Well my TG585v7 is an O2-supplied router which is locked to O2 i.e. it won't work on any other ISP.

think that was why I was confused, ISP-locked fw depending on which ISP supplied it
