Well done Duck.  ;D

Looking at the time you posted the answer on here, it reminds me that I was awake most of the night finally deducing the answer in the small hours.

Not so much a 'night owl' duck, more-so a long suffering insomniac I'm afraid.

I've had 20 mins on your clue, and am not getting anywhere with it as yet. Perseverance (or begging) will eventually lead me to the answer. ;D

A good cure for both insomnia and odd crossword clues is a drop of Scottish refreshment.  ;)

Ooooooooooooo  ....merci !

There's drink involved here   ;D  ....    a good Scotch could  give you a 'kick'    and then you have  "kick in the pants" ..... which could suggest something to hold the kick in the pants  ...  a container   .....  a container for drink  could be a flask... a drinks flask would be a Hip Flask  ... and hips fits in with pants   ......  and 3 and five letters

Hip Flask  ?

Gonna sound all boorish now, but cryptic clues can end up with umpteen answers depending on what logic you apply.
Regular 'solvers' will know that the 'Daily's' have their own code for certain words ...... ie, Home will equate to the letters 'in'.
Church ..... will equate to 'CE' (as in Chruch of England) .... etc etc .....

Scottiesmum, has your clue appeared in a daily paper or is it a home-made clue ??? Cheers. ;D

Well I think the answer is flit  :)

That kinda shows my point silver. Your given answer is a 'direct meaning' of the word 'flit', it isn't 'cryptic'.  In other words, if somebody was to ask you the meaning of the word 'flit', you may well say 'To leave home'.

Sorry Colin           .....the clue is more cryptic  .....

Razpag    ....  it's not a home spun one  (I  think my own cryptic clues on the 'where am I ' section are enough  ;D )    It's a well known clue, I've seen it in a few crosswords over the years .....

a hint  .....    think of leaves in the plural  ;)
