VCR to DVD combi format
« on: September 10, 2007, 12:46:46 AM »

Does any one know what format a DVD/VCR will record to DVD in?

For some reason I have a feeling it may be something peculiar (but only guessing)
Although, regardless of the format can the recorded DVD be edited on a PC.

The reason I ask is, sooner than tie-up the PC for hours-on-end recording from a VCR which I would have to edit anyway.
I was thinking of just getting a combi and copying the video that way, then edit it.

Thanks

hi OF

i used to have a dvd recorder for my tv and it recorded dvd's in MPEG2 file format.

depending on how much u've got to convert, it may be an idea to visit a local AV shop and pay em to do it??

MPEG would be alright as I can soon aurthur that format.
Take it to a shop (god forbid) when it can keep me amused and out of trouble for hours on end

But seriously, no it was just something I fancied having a go at, however if push comes to shove, I might just buy a cheap VCR (if I can find one) as they are getting very scarce and hook that up to a spare PC then just leave it recording for however long the tape is.

The last cheap ones I heard of were in Woolworth's at £20 but that's going back a while now.

Next question,

Try asking your local Freecycle group OF http://www.freecycle.org they do come up from time to time.

You can find decent VCR's in secondhand shops for about £15.

I don't think so...  :D

If it wasn't for the fact of being, well sort of lazy, I could just disconnect one of my other two, just that I don't like having to mess around with the connections all the time and would prefer to leave it in situ.

Now after saying all that I remembered this morning that there is no video capture card on the spare PC/s so it may well be a combi unit after all.
Damn, back to Woolworth's tomorrow, as I noticed they had a fairly cheap unit there today but I never payed much attention to it.

update:
Yes I know this topic has been a long time dead, but I finally got the answer to my original question:
>> Does any one know what format a VCR/DVD will record to DVD in?

I recently treated myself to a Daewoo VCR/DVD combi and the format is the normal/standard VOB format.
